Minority and Women-owned Companies large and small are Giants at National Minority Business Council 31st Annual Awards Ceremony

From $3.8 billion World Wide Technology, Inc. to relatively new start-up organizations and not-for-profits, entrepreneurs in aviation, technology, higher education, office support services, accounting, import/export, advertising specialties and other industries converged at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square to be honored by the National Minority Business Council (www.nmbc.org) for their accomplishments as minority and women-owned businesses, February 24th.

David L. Steward, Chairman of the Board of World Wide Technology accepted the award on behalf of the company he co-founded in 1990. During the St. Louis-based company’s first year of business it did nearly $900,000 in sales. But it marked its 20th anniversary, FY 2010 with $3.8 billion in sales. Despite the still weak economy, Steward struck an upbeat note upon accepting his award, saying, “This is a great country in which we live and the opportunities for entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation remain great.”

“Not Business as Usual” – NYC Small Business Services Offers Opportunities for Minority and Women Businesses

The playing field in doing business with the city government has been leveled for Minority-Owned and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). The City has driven programs and initiatives to engage with MWBEs, and they certainly has oiled up the gears this time.


The Managing an Accounting Practice (MAP) Committee of the Queens/Brooklyn Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) thru minority-owned CPA firms Padilla and Company, LLP; and Dadia Valles Vendiola, LLP organized a breakfast forum entitled “Business Opportunities for the Small Firms” last October 15. Eighteen professionals from the field of accounting and audit attended the well-received forum.
